Finals: Academia's Solution to Christmas Cheer

This year, for some reason, I am acutely aware of the impact finals have on my ability to enjoy the Holiday Season. Maybe it is because finals are stretching further into the month of December this year, or maybe it is because this is my last round of winter finals and I have begun to envision a life without school. Either way, I cannot wait to be done. The effects of finals hit me last Saturday when we were at the Ward Christmas Party. Jen was on the stage reading "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" to Becky and JJ as part of the program. (They all did great!) I was in the back wrestling Emily and I found myself thinking "A 338(h)(10) election creates asset purchase treatment for a stock sale". This is sick!!! I suspect that all across the country there are students who are similarly unable to focus on Christmas because they are forced to focus on filling their minds with facts, figures and rules for their upcoming finals. People everywhere are bemoaning the destruction of Christmas, and I think that finals play a part in that. Therefore, I propose that Universities everywhere cease this attack on Christmas and forgo winter finals in an effort to restore the trifecta of Christmas meaning - Presents, Food, and Football - to its rightful place in the forefront of our minds!!!! (This post would be longer, but I need to get back to studying for my last final.)

The internet will never be the same...

I suppose it is time to embrace this technology thing and find a new way to communicate and connect with our family and friends. I guess Derik was right, this internet thing is not a fad and is here to stay. So here is our blog.

We have been living in Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C., for two and a half years now while I attend law school at Georgetown University. Unbelievably, we are now only a little more than a semester away from graduation. (YES!!!!)

We have three girls who all, thankfully, get their looks from their Mom, and we have a boy on the way. (YYYYEEEESSS!!!!!!!) Right now we are trying to decide on a name. I thought about posting a poll on the blog to let people vote on names, but decided this would be a bad idea for two reasons: 1) No one is going to read this (which then begs the question of why I am writing this) and B) Jen has not fully committed to letting me have a say in the naming of our son, so I can only imagine how she would react to letting our friends and family pick. However, if you feel the need to send anonymous suggestions, may I recommend John Karl (for John Stockton and Karl Malone).

Let us know your thoughts...
